How does the Retro Arcade work?
The Retro Arcade, powered by webretro, works by running a ROM file on a Core in your browser. Courtesy of other cool technologies like RetroArch and Emscripten.
What is a ROM and how do I get one?
ROM, or read-only memory files store the game itself and are ran by a Core when you want to play them. The only legal way to acquire one is by dumping it from the console yourself (if the game isn't in the public domain) however many websites distribute them as games as old as the ones on the Retro Arcade are rarely cared for by their original creators anymore.
What is a Core and how do they work?
Cores run the ROM files and pretend to the ROM file that they are the original hardware the game was designed for. While not perfect, the Cores do a nearly perfect job of emulating the original hardware. They also do things like convert keyboard inputs into controller inputs the game can recognise and other important features.
